Regulations on English Proficiency Tests

  1. Freshman students of 2005 and 2006

    1. Students must complete at least one TOEIC exam before graduation.
    2. Students who score above 750 on the TOEIC or have passed the GEPT High-Intermediate Level test may be exempt from Junior English Courses.
  2. Freshman students of 2007, 2008, and 2009

    1. Students must complete Level B2 of the CEF standards before the sophomore years. Students must finish English test requirements before the end of the sophomore year, reaching Level B2 or the CEF Standards (or TOEIC 750). If the Students fail to reach this criterion, they are required to retake the examination in their junior years and once before graduation in order to graduate.
    2. Students who score above 750 on the TOEIC may be exempt from Junior English Courses.

    CEF Level B2 Vantage

    Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

English Proficiency Test Recognizing Procedures

  1. Freshman students of 2005 and 2006

    1. Students must send a copy of the TOEIC exam with the name, class, and student ID number to the department secretary.(Students who have taken the test on campus are exempt)
    2. Those students who have not taken the TOEIC test or passed the 750 mark must choose one English course for each semester in their Junior and Senior Year. Students must also take the TOEIC test at least once.
    3. Students entering 2005 who have passed the “Grammar and Sentence Pattern Analysis” course and “English and Contemporary Life” course are exempt from Junior year English Courses.
    4. “Business English” only applies to students entering after 2006.
  2. Freshman students of 2007, 2008, and 2009

    1. Students must send the test scores of the TOEIC exam with the name, class, and student ID number to the department secretary at the end of the sophomore, Junior, and Senior Years. The scores will be returned to the students.
    2. The department secretary will announce the names of the students who have not taken the test at the end of every year. Those who have not sent in the test scores will not be allowed to graduate.
    3. Those students who have not taken the TOEIC test or passed the 750 mark must choose one English course for each semester in their Junior and Senior Year. They must also turn in a copy of their score cards before graduating.

    Students must complete at least one professional certificate to graduate.
